I coach all kinds of holistic practitioners, including coaches, counsellors, Reiki practitioners, homeopaths, reflexologists and so many other types of wellness professionals. While most of my coaching addresses the clients' "whole life", I also do a fair amount of coaching around helping my clients transform their businesses. What I have noticed over time is that the four most common things my clients say to me when they first come in the door is:

When I first started my practice, I used to say all these things too. I joined every business network I could find, and ended up spending more time and money than it was worth. I never felt like "myself" when I was promoting myself through these methods and the kinds of clients I was attracting didn't always energise me the way I wished. When the finances got tough, I felt like I was drowning all by myself. I was frequently worried that I would have to go back to teaching a few days a week just to pay the bills, so I could continue coaching. But I knew that if I did that, I would have even less time to build my practice, and that my business would have even less of a chance to succeed.

I was in a Catch-22 situation!

Then, one day, I woke up and had a great idea that simply TURNED MY PRACTICE AROUND within a month. What did I do?

I created my own network.

I am NOT talking about a virtual network. I created a real, live business and social network, in my home town. It flourishes by running events, and by cultivating long-term relationships with my target market. And do you know what? It took a lot of work, but it was actually pretty easy to do.

How has this network transformed my practice? Since starting my network, I have found that it is no longer necessary to "sell" myself anymore to find clients. I am also no longer feeling isolated because I have a huge professional and social circle of supportive people in my life, who help me not only professionally, but personally as well. Every month, there is a flow of new clients calling me from my precise target market and, as my reputation as the leader of my network spreads, I am now maintaining myself 100% through my practice, with the income steadily increasing.

No, I am not a '6-figure coach' (not yet!). No, I don't have a portfolio full of high-paying corporate clients. What I am, however, is someone just like YOU. And my clients are ordinary people, with average incomes, who want my services. And it is my network that is providing the vital link between me and my potential clients. In fact, my network is now growing faster than I can even keep up with it, and it is now expanding to other cities outside my own.

Why does it work? Because by becoming the leader of my own network, I have positioned myself strategically as an expert in my chosen target market. And who do people go to when they are looking for help? They look for the expert they see, know and trust.

The success of my network is no accident. It is succeeding because I designed a system BEFORE I created it. You see, over the years I had already created two other highly successful social networks. One was a subscription-based service that promoted touring musical artists from around the world, and the other one was a global network I ran for 5 years, where I coordinated lecture tours on Eastern philosophy on four continents. These may sound very different from coaching, but actually there were a lot of things I learned from those experiences that were EXACTLY what I needed to make my coaching practice work.

I woke up one morning and realised that I ALREADY knew how to do this. All I had to do was to take the most successful elements of my previous networks, and apply them to my coaching practice to create a new "system". And do you know what? It worked!
